Monash Institute for Medical Research

The Monash Institute for Medical Research was founded in 1991, to bring together scientists and clinicians undertaking research at the Monash Medical Centre, one of the major teaching hospitals in Melbourne Australia.
Monash Institute for Medical Research
Initially called the Monash Institute of Reproduction and Development, the initial research groups focused on fertility, preterm infant death and prostate cancer.

The profile and size of the Institute rapidly expanded and the research focus broadened to now include themes such as cancer, inflammation and infectious diseases, women’s health, stem cells, pain medicine and palliative care.

To reflect the diverse research themes; the Institute was renamed the Monash Institute for Medical Research in 2005. Today the MIMR conducts world class research in seven research centres with a staff of over 400 scientists and students.

The Vision of the MIMR is to enhance human health and the quality of life by major research innovation and discovery in biology, medicine, biotechnology and health services research.
