University College London (UCL) is a leading multidisciplinary university boasting one of the largest and most prestigious collection of academics in biomedical sciences. It has 23 Divisions, Institutes and Research centres within the School of Life and Medical Sciences alone. Within UCL, the UCL Cancer Institute was established for the pursuit of excellence in biomedical research fostering collaborations between researchers in nanotechnology, bioinformatics, developmental biology, stem cell research, immunity, engineering and medicinal chemistry.
Within the UCL Cancer Institute, the Scientific Support core facility team provide a wide range of Bio-analytical and Imaging services to scientists from across UCL, other academic institutions, and Industry. One such facility is the RNAi facility, whose focus is to provide a comprehensive RNAi facility to all members of UCL, allowing researchers access to both single gene and whole genome RNA interference screening for functional genomics studies. The facility offers two Human shRNA vector based libraries including the Thermo Scientific Open Biosystems pGIPZ Human whole genome lentiviral shRNAmir library and the Netherlands Cancer Institute (NKI) Human Cancer Specific retroviral shRNA library. Both libraries are distributed as individual hairpins to knock down specific genes of interest and in multiplex pools for whole genome screening.
