  The aim of the NKI-AvL is to increase our understanding of cancer, to improve diagnostics and to increase cure rates for cancer patients.

The NKI-AvL is an integrated cancer institute, combining a specialized cancer hospital with research laboratories in one organization. The laboratory covers all major areas of cancer research, with special emphasis on functional genomics, cell-based screens, mouse tumor models, cell biology, structural biology, immunology and translational research.

The efficient integration of basic and clinical research provides a unique platform for accelerated discovery, translational research and development of innovative and more specific drugs against cancer.
