Samuel Lunenfeld Research Institute
at Mount Sinai Hospital

The Samuel Lunenfeld Research Institute at Mount Sinai Hospital, a University of Toronto affiliated research centre, is a world leader in biomedical research, committed to excellence in biomedical research and the training of young investigators.

The Samuel Lunenfeld Research Institute is ranked one of the top 10 research centres in the world. Its mission is to advance scientific knowledge, to ensure the applications of such knowledge to the promotion of human health and to assist Mount Sinai in meeting its mission as a leading health care facility.

Comprised of a scientific team of 31 investigators and more than 500 staff, 100,000 square feet of laboratory space and a 25,000-square-foot pre-clinical research lab and an annual budget of more than $60 million, the Institute, led by Dr. Jim Woodgett, ensures important health research continues to take place and is translated into better patient care. Many of our researchers are on their way to identifying treatment options and preventative measures for diseases including cancer, diabetes, hypertension, premature labour, depression and osteoporosis.

Mount Sinai Hospital is recognized nationally and internationally for its excellence in the provision of compassionate patient care, teaching and research. Its key priority programs are Women's and Infants' Health, Surgical Subspecialties and Oncology, Internal Medicine and Subspecialties, and the Samuel Lunenfeld Research Institute. It is a University of Toronto-affiliated patient care, teaching and research centre.
